The ultimate zesty and refreshing sauce, this green goddess dressing recipe will become a quick favorite to top onto salads, bowls or even used as a dip! Easily customizable and made with just a few simple ingredients.
It dawned on me the other day as I was whipping up yet another bowl recipe that I’ve never shared my classic green goddess dressing recipe. This sauce is pretty much second nature to me. I just throw everything in the blender and hope for the best. Without fail this green goddess dressing always seems to work out.
It struck me that sometimes I go 10 steps ahead when it comes to cooking instead of sharing the classics. I’ve shared plenty of bowl recipes (and many more to come!) but sometimes what you really need is a delicious dressing recipe to top onto whatever you have – recipe or not!
What I love most about this recipe is how customizable it is. I oftentimes make it when I notice some of my herbs on their way out. I toss them in the blender with the rest of the ingredients and BAM it gives them new life! It’s also super versatile and can be eaten on just about everything, but we’ll get to that in a bit! For now let’s look at the ingredients in this green goddess dressing recipe.
Plain greek yogurt – I prefer greek but you can use any plain yogurt
Herbs of choice – cilantro, basil, parsley, tarragon, chives, green onions, dill etc…
Garlic – use fresh! It tastes so much better
Salt and pepper
Jalapeno – optional but I love the spicy kick!
My personal favorite combination is cilantro, basil and dill but honestly any combination will do. Use whatever you have on hand!
So many other versions of this recipe use extra ingredients like anchovy paste, mayonnaise or oil but honestly none of them are necessary. The tanginess from the greek yogurt is plenty and the herbs add so much flavor!
How to Make Green Goddess Dressing?
This recipe is SO simple. All you need are the ingredients above and a blender. I love my Vitamix but any old blender will do. Just throw everything into the blender and blend until smooth. Don’t worry if it doesn’t get completely smooth. Some bits of herbs still make for a delicious recipe.
Can You Make It Vegan?
Yes! You can of course use a plant-based yogurt but my preference for vegan green goddess dressing is to replace with avocado. Your recipe will be as follows:
1 large avocado
1/4 cup water
1 cup herbs of choice
1 garlic clove
salt and pepper
1/2 jalapeno
You’ll follow the same instructions as below and blend everything together in your high speed blender. The avocado adds the creaminess and while it isn’t as tangy as the greek yogurt, it’s still delicious!
How to Serve Green Goddess Dressing?
There are so many ways to eat this green goddess dressing recipe but here are a few examples:
As a dip – perfect for a veggie platter
As a salad dressing – whatever veggies you’ve got on hand, throw them together and toss with this dressing
As a buddha bowl sauce – Try replacing the peanut sauce in the ultimate buddha bowl recipe
On a grain bowl – grains, protein, veggies and dressing – use whatever you’ve got on hand and top with this green goddess dressing!
As a marinade – Marinate your meat, tofu or seafood in this sauce before cooking
As a dipping sauce – might I suggest pairing it with these crispy baked fries?!
Here is one of my favorite grain bowl recipes: farro, bbq chicken, mixed greens, crispy chickpeas topped with this zesty green goddess dressing recipe!
