But it’s also inspiring, growth-inducing and has completely broadened my perspective on the world and the people that inhabit it. And perhaps most importantly, I’ve eaten some damnnnn good food.
I’m a pretty high-strung person whose anxieties are generally amplified by travel. But that’s the exact reason why I think it’s so good for me to travel. I’m wired to function best with routine. It makes life seem somewhat more predictable or at least give the illusion like I have some control. But then suddenly things change and this sense of control dissipates into thin air and I’m left freaking out over the shattered pieces. My attempts to tame my anxieties end up back-firing in a very big way.

And like I said…the food. The food always makes the travel stress worthwhile. And especially food like this Black Bean Chipotle Hummus inspired by a recent trip to a San Francisco Farmer’s Market. It is basically the hummus of my dreams. Spicy chipotle mixed with the earthy taste of black beans for a Mexican twist on a classic Mediterranean dish.
They say that “home is wherever I’m with you”. I’m assuming by “you” they were referring to this hummus, because it certainly feels like home.

Ingredients
Instructions
- Add all ingredients to a food processor (including jalapeno if using).
- Blend until smooth (about 3 mins).
- Serve with veggies, crackers, pita or desired side.
- Store in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
